Seamless White Background Quick Tip and Resources

I lot of people really like the solid white background or high key look. You can do this on location as well if you have a reasonably white wall and enough distance between that wall and your subject. This is my typical setup:

Two flashes at roughly 45 degree angles to blow out the back wall (which was a slightly off white) and you will want to flag these to keep any light from landing on the back of your subject. Then I light the subject with a simple softbox on a boom arm to get a simple clean look like this:

The subject stands roughly where the white X is and then position the camera right in front. You need a fairly decent size room for this but I often find a hall works well. The main this in distance between the back of the subject and the wall to avoid spill off the back wall.

Zed is Dead – Live at the Brit

I had a great time shooting some live concert footage last week. I have enjoyed shooting and editing video in the past but with the 5D MarkII it is a whole lot more fun. I pulled the audio straight off the sound board using my Zoom H4N handy recorder so the sound is at least clean. The mix was a bit off however. Here are the 3 songs I edited down hope you enjoy them. Oh and the wide shots are courtesy of my Flip Mino HD.
